French polisher sets out on labour of Lennoxlove

As Lennoxlove House, one of Scotland’s premier historic country homes, moves into the final phase of an extensive restoration project to transform it into one of the most exclusive places to stay in Scotland, French polisher Marion Forbes, whose workshop is in Gifford, gets to work painstakingly restoring and conserving over 50 pieces of antique mahogany and walnut furniture belonging to the house.
The three month long process will see Marion restore the furniture, some of which dates back to the early nineteenth century to its former glory. All the pieces will be returned to the house to adorn the new guest bedrooms and public receptions rooms.
Marion Forbes said:
“It’s going be challenging, but an opportunity to work on such a collection of beautiful furniture rarely comes along. Some of these items are masterpieces of their time and it is easy to get lost in the expertise and craftsmanship that created them in the first place. This is going to be a labour of love!”
The General Manager of Lennoxlove House who is overseeing the project, said:
“Fundamental to the restoration is the need to preserve and protect the heritage of Lennoxlove House. Every aspect of the renovation, therefore, is being undertaken with the utmost care and attention. The House is famous for its collection of art and antiquities, indeed many pieces have a fascinating history of their own. Our challenge is put everything back together again in time for the House’s re-launch in July, as a beautiful and exceptional place to stay, with a style and charm that is uniquely Lennoxlove.”
