Service, Style & Seclusion

Lennoxlove House reopens

Posted: Jul 18, 2007

Following an extensive conservation and renovation project, Lennoxlove House, seat of the Dukes of Hamilton, re-opened its doors today (July 18), offering luxury private accommodation for the first time, within the secluded, yet authentic, surroundings of Scotland’s premier historic country home.

The house now offers 11 newly created suites, which blend state of the art facilities with centuries’ old architectural features. Hand-blocked wallpaper from France, Colefax and Fowler fabrics, a discreet butler service and helicopter landing facilities are just some of the touches that will make Lennoxlove House one of the most exclusive and unique places to stay in Scotland.

The 18 month restoration project has seen the 700 year old building, which reflects centuries of social, cultural and political history, returned to its former splendour. Life and polish have been returned to magnificent Robert Lorimer design detail and the striking Colefax and Fowler decorative schemes while guests and visitors can immerse themselves in the beautiful paintings and furniture from the prestigious Hamilton Collection.

One new feature is a 16th century four poster bed in the ‘Ladies Bower’. Reputedly used by Mary Queen of Scots, whilst in captivity at Arden Hall in North Yorkshire, this intricately carved oak bed has been restored and beautifully furnished. It is not, however, to be treated as a museum piece and can be slept in.

In the restored House, every bedroom and state room is different in character and style with wonderful views on to the Lammermuir Hills, across the 460 acre estate, or on to the sunken Lorimer garden.

The general manager at Lennoxlove said:

“When we started the project, our plan was to transform the house into a magnificent destination for people looking to relax in seclusion and luxury. Creating the highest quality interiors, incorporating state of the art facilities, which are sympathetically blended with the architectural and historic character of the house, was critical to the success of the venture. The rooms simply drip with history and style.”

She added:

“The house can be hired on an exclusive basis and guests can rest assured that they can relax in luxurious privacy. We will ensure that your well-being is our top priority. The butler will run baths, turn down beds and even place a bedtime story on your pillow. Organising shopping trips to Harvey Nichols, or a round of golf at the nearby prestigious Archerfield Links can be arranged. Lennoxlove is, above all, about service, style and seclusion.”

“Because the house has such a unique character, we believe it will be a vibrant part of the East Lothian landscape and unmatched anywhere in Scotland.”
