The House
Dating back to the 1300's, Lennoxlove House reflects the myriad of family, political and social influences which have shaped Scottish history.
Throughout the centuries, the House has been owned by the Maitland family, the Blantyres and most recently the Duke and Duchess of Hamilton, who, in 2006, began an extensive renovation project to bring renewed life and polish to the House.
The 18 month restoration became necessary as the years took their toll on the building's ornate stonework. Whilst some of the walls in the original part of the House are over eleven feet deep, the architectural features, which mark out the centuries in some style, needed care and protection to ensure they last for another seven hundred years.
As a result, the House has been restored to its former glory; the magnificant design detail introduced by the architect Robert Lorimer has been augmented by the elegance of the interior design detail by John Fowler of Colefax and Fowler.
Coupled with many period features, including ornate cornicing and marble features, this makes Lennoxlove House truly one of a kind.
Lennoxlove House gains its name from Frances Theresa Stewart, the Duchess of Lennox and Richmond, who bequeathed the House to her nephew Lord Blantyre, with the dedication that it should be known as "Lennox's Love to Blantyre."
