The Duke of Hamilton

The Duke of Hamilton is the descendant of generations of men and women who had played a highly significant part in Scotland's history.

Towards the end of the Second World War, the 14th Duke with his wife, Elizabeth Ivy Percy, Duchess of Hamilton, daughter of the Duke of Northumberland, decided they wished to move their young family to the East of Scotland.  The new home needed to be small enough to be a family home and large enough to house the Hamilton Art collection.  Lennoxlove House fitted the bill and by chance Her Grace's enquiries about the House were timely and in 1946 it was acquired.  The present Duke and his four brothers were raised in Lennoxlove House.

The 14th Duke of Hamilton died in 1973 and was succeeded by his eldest son, the 15th Duke, an engineer, test pilot, racing driver and author.

The Duke is keen that the history of the family, told through the art collection and the House itself, is preserved and imparted to new generations. Above all, the Duke wishes that the House be enjoyed by guests as his family has enjoyed it over the years.
